🧭 DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY

Day 1 — Arrival at Terme Olimia + gentle adjustment in the thermal baths

  • 🏁 Arrive in Podčetrtek and check in to one of the hotels in the Terme Olimia complex. From Ljubljana, the drive usually takes about 1 hr 45 min – 2 hr 10 min; from Zagreb — about 1 hr 15 min – 1 hr 40 min, so it’s best to keep the first day for recovery after the flight and transfer rather than a packed sightseeing program.

  • ♨️ After check-in, give yourself a “settling into the rhythm” day: a calm introduction to the grounds, warm pools, thermal water, a short walk between the buildings, and an early dinner. Here, wellness feels not like a one-time attraction but like a whole environment: soft light, green slopes, air free from city rush, and the feeling that your body is finally no longer hurrying.

  • 🧘 The key rule for the first day: don’t overload yourself with saunas, long bathing sessions, and a late dinner. The best strategy is 1–2 relaxing dips, breaks for rest, and an early night. At resorts of this kind, the effect often begins precisely when you stop trying to “get the most” out of every minute.

Day 2 — Wellness day: Termalija / Orhidelia + a walk around the resort

  • 💧 Today is the main thermal day. In the morning, it’s better to choose the pools and relax zones rather than trying to do everything at once. At Terme Olimia, it’s especially pleasant to alternate water, silence, loungers, and short breaks for tea or water. This format gives a much stronger sense of recovery than continuous “endurance swimming.”

  • 🌿 After lunch — a walk around the resort area. Here, the landscape itself works as part of the отдых: forested slopes, well-kept paths, gentle inclines, and cozy resort architecture without the noise of a big city. For a wellness trip, this is the ideal balance — water treatments in the morning, then 40–60 minutes of walking at a conversational pace in the evening.

  • 🛁 If you’re planning a sauna or spa rituals, do it in moderation: one main wellness block in the first half of the day and one short relaxing block later. That way your body won’t get tired from excess heat, and your sleep in the evening will be deep and truly restorative.

Day 3 — Olimje: monastery, Old Pharmacy, and Jelenov Greben

  • ⛪ After breakfast, head to Olimje — it’s a short trip from the thermal resort, usually about 10–15 minutes by car or taxi. Here you’ll find one of the most atmospheric spots in the whole region: the Olimje Monastery complex, which grew out of an old estate and is known for its Baroque setting, tranquility, and the history of its old monastic pharmacy. This is not a museum site to rush through, but a place where you want to walk more slowly, notice the details of the facade and interior spaces, and allow yourself a pause.

  • 🧴 The Old Pharmacy at the monastery is one of Olimje’s landmark spots. It carries a rare combination of spiritual history, herbal tradition, and an almost intimate sense of time. A slow visit works especially well here: don’t rush, don’t try to tick off the attraction, but absorb the atmosphere of the place.

  • 🦌 After the cultural part, drive or walk to Jelenov Greben. This is one of the most recognizable local spots: a hill, a rustic gastronomic atmosphere, and the chance to see and feed deer and mouflons almost up close. The day turns out very well balanced: first silence and history, then a soft rural landscape, animals, fresh air, and lunch without city bustle.

Day 4 — Podčetrtek: castle, farming equipment museum, and a calm evening in the thermal baths

  • 🏰 In the morning, devote time to Podčetrtek itself. Podčetrtek Castle rises above the area as a striking historical landmark. Even if you’re not into the “fortress” theme, it’s worth going up here for the sense of space: tiled roofs, hills, expanses of greenery, and a very photogenic view of the surroundings. After the recent stage of recovery, this place feels especially vivid — not like a ruin “for reference,” but like a real cultural highlight of the region.

  • 🚜 Then you can switch to a more intimate and unexpectedly soulful stop — the Museum of Farming Equipment in Podčetrtek. This kind of museum works especially well on a wellness route: it doesn’t overwhelm, but it adds depth to the experience. Through old tools, household items, and farm machinery, the region reveals itself not as an abstract “green Slovenia,” but as a place of real everyday labor, craft, and peasant memory.

  • ♨️ In the evening, return to the thermal baths without rushing. After a day with climbs and walks, it’s better to choose a restorative mode: the pool, a short stay in warm water, dinner, and an early rest. This alternation — cultural activity during the day and gentle thermal recovery in the evening — is exactly what makes a five-day trip truly resort-like.

Day 5 — Light regional panorama + final relaxation and departure

  • 🌄 It’s best not to overload the last day with long trips. If your flight or transfer is later, you can choose a short outing toward the region’s nature and viewpoint spots, or simply devote the morning to an unhurried walk around the resort. It’s important to leave time not only for packing, but also for a final “deep exhale” — a cup of coffee overlooking the green slopes, one last dip in the pool, a slow walk around the grounds.

  • 🧳 The best departure logic: check out of the room, leave extra time for the road, and don’t plan activities too close to the transfer. It is usually easier and faster to get to Zagreb by car or transfer; to Ljubljana as well, especially if you don’t want to make connections through bus and rail hubs.

  • ✅ A beautiful ending to this route is not to “fit in one more thing,” but to leave with the feeling that you were truly at a resort: you slept well, relaxed, breathed fresh air, walked a little, saw the surroundings, and didn’t turn your holiday into a logistics marathon.
