🧭 DAY-BY-DAY ROUTE

Day 1 — Bangkok: Rattanakosin Royal Island

  • 🚶 Your first introduction to Bangkok is the city’s historic heart on Rattanakosin Island. In the morning, head to the Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Phra Kaew): the gold of covered galleries, elegant Khmer prangs, shimmering mosaics, and a ceremonial atmosphere set the tone for the whole trip. Then go to Wat Pho, where a colossal Golden Buddha lies in the shade of the gardens, and the oldest school of traditional Thai massage operates on the grounds. Cross to the other bank of the Chao Phraya to Wat Arun — the “Temple of Dawn”: its porcelain inlay and the river view are especially beautiful in the pre-sunset light. In the evening, have dinner by the water and stroll along the promenade by Tha Tien Pier; the lights of boats and the scent of jasmine over the warm river create the mood of a true tropical capital.

Day 2 — Bangkok: Thonburi canals, Jim Thompson House, and BACC

  • 🚶 In the morning, take the Chao Phraya Express boat to Saphan Taksin Pier and transfer to a narrow long-tail boat: the quiet Thonburi canals (khlongs) are a different Bangkok, where wooden houses with shrines line the water, peppers dry in the sun, and at the piers vendors sell fresh mango sticky rice. After that, the Jim Thompson House: six teak buildings assembled from old Lanna and Central Thai homes, filled with silks and ceramics. Finish at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC): a white spiral of galleries, independent exhibitions, bookstores, and cafés — the perfect place to catch your breath and absorb the megacity’s contemporary culture.

Day 3 — Bangkok: markets and parks

  • 🚶 Breakfast in Chinatown/Yaowarat — steamed dim sum, fried onions, and herbal drinks from street stalls. During the day, stroll through Lumphini and Benjakitti parks: running paths around lakes, gardens, elevated promenades, and the “Green Mile” bridge between the parks. Toward evening, stop by a night market (for example, on Talad Rot Fai Street or in Chinatown): neon, street fashion, grilled seafood, and rooftop cocktails — that cinematic “night in Bangkok.”

Day 4 — Ayutthaya: the capital of Siam and the country’s roots

  • 🚆 Transfer: Bangkok → Ayutthaya by train from Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal: ~1–1 h 30 min depending on the train type. Return the same way. Tickets for regular trains are available on site; it’s better to book express trains in advance.

  • 🚶 Ayutthaya is a city-archipelago at the confluence of three rivers, the former capital of Siam and a UNESCO site. Start with Wat Mahathat: the roots of a sacred tree have wrapped around a Buddha head — one of Thailand’s most famous symbols. Then Wat Phra Si Sanphet with its slender chedis on the site of the old royal palace and a park with prangs where sunlight plays on the fired brick. By evening, return to Bangkok: on the way, enjoy the sunset over rice fields outside the train window.

Day 5 — Flight to Chiang Mai and the Old City

  • ✈️ Transfer: Bangkok (BKK/DMK) → Chiang Mai (CNX) by direct flight: ~1 h 15–20 min. A romantic alternative is the night train (10–12 h, sleeper berths).

  • 🚶 Chiang Mai greets you with the scent of tamarind and teak shadows. Walk the Old City neighborhoods around the moat: Wat Phra Singh with the Lai Kham Hall and carved gold lacquer, Wat Chedi Luang — a majestic Lanna stupa with ruins and elephants on the corners, and the wooden Wat Phan Tao. Between temples — cafés with Northern specialty coffee, mango desserts, and the calm rhythm of the “pink North.”

Day 6 — Doi Suthep, the Monk’s Trail, and panoramas

  • 🚶 Climbing Doi Suthep Mountain is a symbol of Chiang Mai. Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, with its gleaming stupa and city views, is especially beautiful early in the morning: bells chime, the valley stretches in the haze, and monks chant sutras in the halls. On the way down, take the “Monk’s Trail” to the forest Wat Pha Lat: moss, bamboo, waterfalls, and stupas set into the rock. In the afternoon — markets by the North Gate and khao soi street noodles.

Day 7 — An ethical encounter with elephants

  • 🚶 Trip to the Elephant Nature Park sanctuary — a rehabilitation place for rescued elephants. No riding and no tricks: you observe, feed, and help bathe the animals under staff supervision, learn rescue stories and about the work of veterinarians. Return to the city — sunset on the Ping riverside and the Night Bazaar evening market with crafts of northern peoples and open-air musicians.

Day 8 — Lanna cuisine and the Nimman district

  • 🚶 In the morning — a cooking class with a market visit: lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, curry pastes, and the secret of crispy pork rind brought to us by the North. In the afternoon — the Nimman art district with street art, ceramic studios, and cafés in modernist houses. In the evening — a spa with an herbal steam bath and a quiet night in the Old City before the flight south.

Day 9 — Flight to Phuket and the first sunset by the sea

  • ✈️ Transfer: Chiang Mai (CNX) → Phuket (HKT) by direct flight: ~2 h (there are daily flights from several carriers).

  • 🚶 Check in on the south of the island (Kata Noi, Karon, or Nai Harn) — strips of soft sand, turquoise water, and hills running out into the sea. In the evening — dinner on the beach: fresh tiger prawns, tom yum, and mango with sticky rice to the rustle of palms and the roar of surf.

Day 10 — Phi Phi: turquoise lagoons and limestone towers

  • ⛴ Transfer: Phuket (Rassada Pier) → Phi Phi Islands — speedboat ~45–60 min or ferry ~1 h 45–2 h. A morning departure gives you more time in the bays.

  • 🚶 A day in the Phi Phi Archipelago: limestone walls with tropical vegetation, coves with jade-tinted water, snorkeling over a garden of corals and parrotfish. Stops at Pileh Lagoon and the beaches around Tonsai are a must (in high season the water is especially clear). In the evening — return to Phuket, dinner at a cozy Thai bistro by the sea.

Day 11 — Phang Nga Bay: kayaks and “hong caves”

  • 🛶 “Hong by Starlight” route: after lunch the boat heads to the karst islands of Phang Nga Bay. Guides lead you in inflatable kayaks into enclosed hong lagoons through “breathing” caves, where overhead there are stalactites and flying foxes. By sunset — dinner on board, and in the dark — a descent into bioluminescent caves and the launch of traditional banana-leaf floats with flowers. It’s a gentle, contemplative adventure, one of the most poetic in the south.

Day 12 — Phuket temples and panoramas

  • 🚶 In the morning — Wat Chalong: tiered prangs, delicate murals, and reliquaries. Then — a climb to the viewpoints in the south of the island (Karon/Kata Viewpoint, Promthep Cape). Note: access to the Big Buddha site on Nakkerd Hill is periodically restricted due to restoration work and safety; panoramas of the statue and the bays are clearly visible from the lower terraces and nearby viewpoints — check the current status the day before with your hotel/guide.

Day 13 — Phuket Old Town

  • 🚶 Phuket Old Town — pastel shophouses with Sino-Portuguese ornament, coffee shops, verandas with mosaics and shutters. Walk along Thalang Road, Soi Romanee and Dibuk Road: museums, art shops, coconut ice cream, and cool courtyards. If the day of the week lines up — make it to Sunday Walking Street: in the sunset glow the street turns into a fair of music, street food, and crafts.

Day 14 — Return to Bangkok

  • ✈️ Transfer: Phuket (HKT) → Bangkok (BKK/DMK) by direct flight: ~1 h 20–1 h 30 min. With an early departure it’s convenient to get to the airport by taxi/transfer; with a daytime flight you can still fit in a walk on the beach and coffee with a view of the Andaman Sea.
