🧭 DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY

Day 1 — Como: getting to know the lake and Volta’s “electricity”

  • 🚶 Arrive in Milan and transfer to the city of Como: after checking in, stroll along the lakeside promenade on Lungolario Trientale and stop by the Volta Temple — a small rotunda museum by the water where the history of electricity comes alive through instruments and manuscripts. At sunset, drop into the park of Villa Olmo: the parterre vistas, the enfilade of the waterfront, and soft light on the mountains — an ideal first shot of the trip.

Day 2 — Como → Bellagio: funicular for views and the first crossing by water

  • 🚠 In the morning, take the Como–Brunate funicular: from above the lake opens up like a “fork” — the two southern arms split at the Bellagio promontory. Walk the viewpoints, have a coffee with a view, then go back down and take a fast hydrofoil or a sightseeing boat to Bellagio. An hour on the water — and you’re in the “pearl of Como”: narrow salita lanes, stone stairways, antique shops. In the evening — a quiet stroll around Piazza Mazzini and along Lungolario Manzoni.

Day 3 — Bellagio: the gardens of Villa Melzi and the “nose” of Punta Spartivento

  • 🌿 A day of greenery and water. Walk from the center along the shore to the gardens of Villa Melzi: camellias, white statues in the shade of cypresses, gazebos and views of the opposite shores. On the way back, step into the parish basilica of San Giacomo — a строгий Romanesque interior under stone vaults. To end the day — an easy descent to Punta Spartivento, where the two arms of the lake merge into a single horizon line: sunsets are especially spectacular here.

Day 4 — Varenna: Villa Monastero’s botany and a castle on the rock

  • ⛴️ A short (≈ 15 min) ferry ride to Varenna — the intimate eastern shore. Walk along the “Walk of Lovers” promenade, then head to Villa Monastero: palms, citrus trees, a ribbon-like garden along the water and a house museum with early-20th-century interiors. After lunch — climb up to Castello di Vezio: towers, a falconry terrace, and the best panorama over Bellagio and Tremezzina.

Day 5 — Tremezzina: Villa Carlotta and Teresio Olivelli Park

  • 🎨 The western shore is a synthesis of art and botany. In Tremezzo you’ll find Villa Carlotta: Canova and Thorvaldsen marbles, painting collections, and a park with centuries-old camellias and a bamboo grove. During the day — a lazy hour on the lawns of Teresio Olivelli Park by the water: planing motorboats, Bellagio’s shimmering silhouette opposite, and a sweet pause after the museums.

Day 6 — Lenno: Villa del Balbianello — a film set on the cape

  • 🎬 Morning — travel to Lenno and then go on foot or by boat to Villa del Balbianello: arcaded portico galleries, terraces with clipped boxwood, and views you’ll recognize from scenes in Star Wars and Casino Royale. Plan unhurriedly: the road to the villa is part of the pleasure, and the gardens are best taken in slowly.

Day 7 — Menaggio and the Greenway del Lago di Como

  • 🥾 A day for the rhythm of the “slow shore.” From Bellagio — take the ferry to Menaggio and walk a stretch of the Greenway del Lago di Como: ancient parishes, stone arches, quiet coves where boats creak at the piers. Have lunch in one of the lakeside villages along the way, and by evening return to Bellagio via an easy loop with the ferry.

Day 8 — Como: silk, the pinacoteca, and palace parks

  • 🧵 Return to Como by water or by bus. In the morning — the Silk Museum: textiles, loom mechanisms, and a living history of the craft that made Como synonymous with elegance. Then — the Pinacoteca in Palazzo Volpi: from medieval sculpture to modernism and Rationalist architecture. End the day with an unhurried loop along the waterfront to Villa Olmo.

Day 9 — Brunate and balconies above the lake

  • 🌄 Repeat the funicular — but this time with a long ridge walk: the Volta Lighthouse, villas in the greenery, a sip of cool forest air. It’s a “panoramic reset” between days of museums and gardens.

Day 10 — Cernobbio: villas and esplanades

  • 🌳 Along the western shore — to Cernobbio. Stroll along the waterside esplanade by the legendary Villa d’Este, and stop by the park and eclectic façades of the Villa Erba exhibition complex — the former family seat of the Visconti. In the evening — dinner by the water and a gentle return to base.

Day 11 — Comacina Island and the Romanesque silence of Zoca de l’Oli

  • ⛵ From Sala Comacina or Ossuccio — take a boat to Como’s only island. Forest trails, remnants of Romanesque churches, and the effect of “island silence,” when the sounds of the lake become louder than words.

Day 12 — Free day: Bellagio at your own pace

  • ☕ Return to your favorite spots: another hour in the Melzi Gardens, coffee on Piazza Mazzini, shopping for local silk and limoncello. If you want some activity — a kayak or SUP in the quiet bay of Pescallo.

Day 13 — Small discoveries: parishes, courtyards, and family trattorias

  • 🕍 In Bellagio, stop by the Church of San Giorgio, the narrow courtyards and wine bars on the “salite.” At sunset — Punta Spartivento again, or any “balcony” spot by the water you liked: Como is beautiful in repetition.

Day 14 — Finale on the water

  • 🛥️ Complete the loop with a short cruise around the central triangle (Bellagio—Varenna—Menaggio) and a final dinner with a view: the last glints on the water gather the trip into a single, soft picture.
