Day 1 — Old Nafplio: historic center, Syntagma Square, and an evening by the sea
- 💞 Mood of the day — a calm walk through the old town and a romantic evening on the waterfront. The active part of the day comfortably takes about 4–6 hours without rushing: check-in, a late breakfast, a walk through neoclassical streets, Syntagma Square, the old port, and a gentle evening loop around the center. For a couple, this is one of the most pleasant days: Nafplio’s center is compact, beautiful, and very photogenic, with many cafés, small squares, and Venetian-style facades all around. It’s best to start in the late morning, when museums and cafés are already open, and then head to the water and the port line with views of Bourtzi by golden hour. In the evening, the old center stays lively and is suitable for a safe walk if you stick to the main streets, Syntagma Square, and the waterfront. Logistics are simple: everything is within walking distance from hotels in the old town. In high season, it’s better to book terrace tables and more popular boutique hotels in advance. In the hotter months, it’s convenient to devote the middle of the day to resting in your room or having a long lunch, then go out for another walk in the evening. As for safety, avoid heading late at night to dark stairways and empty areas outside the center, and use official taxis when returning late from a restaurant.
