🥾 ROUTE BY DAY

Day 1 — Ortisei: panoramic walk on Seceda

  • 🥾 The first day is best devoted to the region’s most famous scenic walk: taking the Ortisei–Furnes–Seceda cable car up and following a gentle route across the high mountain meadows along the edge of the Odle massif. This is panoramic mountain hiking on wide marked trails without technical sections. The active part of the day usually takes 4–5 hours if you do the scenic loop from the upper station to the Seceda viewpoints and then continue toward the gentle Fermeda meadows before returning to the cable car or descending on foot to Furnes. Effort benchmarks: about 8–10 km, elevation gain 250–400 m, difficulty moderate. The route suits an average traveler because the start is already at altitude, the trails are well known, there are many walkers here, huts are available, and navigation is straightforward. Along the way you get dramatic Odle pinnacles, green pastures, the soft contours of Val Gardena, and long scenic ledges for photos. In June, remnants of snow may still remain on some shaded sections, so it is better to wear hiking shoes with good soles; from July to September, the main risks are afternoon thunderstorms and strong sun, so it is best to set out in the morning. During the summer season, it is more convenient to book cable car access and some lifts in advance, and in bad weather you should check lift operations before heading out.

Day 2 — Ortisei: Alpe di Siusi and an easy loop across the plateau

  • 🌿 On the second day, the route moves to the alpine plateau, meadows, and gentle hills of Alpe di Siusi — one of the most comfortable areas for relaxed hiking in the Dolomites. From Ortisei, it is easy to go up on the Ortisei–Alpe di Siusi gondola and follow one of the simple scenic routes across the pastures around Compatsch / panoramic meadows with views of Sassolungo and Sciliar. This is a lighter-paced day: 3.5–5 hours of active walking, about 7–11 km, elevation gain 150–300 m, difficulty easy to moderate. The trail is suitable without special gear because most routes on the plateau run along wide paths, dirt alpine trails, and comfortable tracks between huts and pastures. It is especially beautiful here in June and early July, when the meadows are in bloom, while in August and September the air is clearer and the views deeper. Keep in mind that the sun is very strong on the plateau and there is less shelter than in the forest, so water, sunscreen, and a windproof layer are essential. If you want a fully relaxed day, you can shorten the route to a circular walk between viewpoints and mountain huts while still keeping the spirit of hiking without overexertion.

Day 3 — Santa Cristina: Monte Pana and trails at the foot of Sassolungo

  • ⛰️ The third day is devoted to mountain meadows, forest sections, and panoramic trails at the foot of Sassolungo. The best option for regular travelers is to start from the Monte Pana plateau above Santa Cristina and walk toward Mont de Sëura or along the lower part of the famous Sassolungo circuit without going onto difficult high-altitude sections. The active part usually takes 4–6 hours; in a comfortable version this means 8–12 km and about 300–500 m of elevation gain, difficulty moderate. The main charm of the day is the combination of forest, pastures, and very close views of the sheer walls of Sassolungo, while the trail itself remains straightforward, popular, and suitable without a helmet, via ferrata set, or mountaineering experience. If your energy is average, you can use the Monte Pana / Mont de Sëura chairlift to reduce the climb and save energy for the scenic walk. In June, dampness sometimes lingers in the upper shaded pockets, after rain the rocks become slippery, and by late September the day is already noticeably shorter — so it is important not to stretch the route into dusk. This is one of the most beautiful days of the tour, but it is best done at a calm pace, with breaks for the views and lunch in a mountain hut.

Day 4 — Selva di Val Gardena: the Vallunga valley and the entrance to Puez-Odle Park

  • 🌲 The fourth day is the ideal contrast to the open panoramas of the previous days: valley hiking through forest, alpine clearings, and the entrance zone of the Puez-Odle Nature Park. From Selva di Val Gardena, it is easy to head out for a walk through Vallunga — one of the friendliest and most scenic valleys in the region. This route is for those who want a gentler effort: 3–4.5 hours, about 6–9 km as an out-and-back, elevation gain 150–250 m, difficulty easy. It suits an average traveler because the valley is widely known, well marked, without dangerous ridges and without any need for special equipment. Along the way there are streams, grassy clearings, forest edges, a bright valley beneath the park walls, and a very calm atmosphere. This is a good recovery day after Sassolungo. Seasonal notes are simple: after rain some sections may be muddy, mornings can be cool even in summer, and in September shadows in the valley become longer. If there is time left, you can add a short walk around Selva itself or stop by a local information point to уточнить the condition of tomorrow’s trails.

Day 5 — Selva di Val Gardena: Col Raiser and a panoramic route in Puez-Odle Park

  • 🏔️ The final day of the tour is the most ‘Dolomite-like’ in atmosphere, but still safe for an ordinary traveler: a lift up to Col Raiser and a scenic walk through the alpine meadows and gentle mountain trails of the Puez-Odle Nature Park toward the viewpoints beneath Odle/Geisler. Instead of a long and more tiring high-altitude circuit, it is better to choose a shortened route along the most spectacular safe sections: 4–5.5 hours, about 7–10 km, elevation gain 300–450 m, difficulty moderate. The lift saves energy, and the trails themselves are known as some of the best walking routes in Val Gardena. This day is suitable without special equipment if you do not head for remote passes or choose steep descents; good shoes, water, and basic endurance are enough. In clear weather, the views of Odle, Seceda, Stevia, and the green pastures are especially striking. Important seasonal notes: in June there may still be snow tongues in the upper part, in July–August afternoon thunderstorms are possible, and in September cable cars and buses require especially careful schedule checks. It is a beautiful finish to the route — with the feeling of the real Dolomites, but without extremity.
