🚗 DAY-BY-DAY ROUTE

Day 1 — Baden-Baden → Schwarzwaldhochstraße → Mummelsee → Baden-Baden

  • 🚗 Start in Baden-Baden, and it is best to dedicate the first day to a beautiful “warm-up” without a heavy transfer: a circular route along the famous B500 Schwarzwaldhochstraße. A realistic daily distance is about 65 km, pure driving time ≈ 1 hr 05 min, but with stops it can easily fill the whole day. Main stops: panoramic sections of the B500, Lake Mummelsee, and the Black Forest National Park around Ruhestein. This is exactly the kind of road people come here to drive: gentle elevation curves, conifer-covered slopes, misty ridgelines, and convenient viewpoints. It is best to stay overnight in Baden-Baden so you do not have to carry luggage on the first day. Road nuances: in Baden-Baden itself, carefully watch parking zones and the rules of the historic center; on the B500 the road is of good quality, but in bad weather and fog visibility drops sharply; in winter snow and ice are possible on the higher sections. The day is realistic for an average driver because it is a short distance on one of the region’s most convenient scenic roads, with many official stops and no complicated navigation.

Day 2 — Baden-Baden → Ruhestein → Triberg/forest roads B500 → Freiburg

  • 🚗 This is already a full southbound transfer through the Black Forest, but without overload: about 110 km and ≈ 1 hr 50 min of pure driving time. The optimal rhythm is to leave Baden-Baden, stop at the Nationalparkzentrum Ruhestein, then continue along the scenic southern section of the B500 and finish calmly in Freiburg. On the way, you can make 2–3 breaks at official parking areas by forest viewpoints and short walking trails. Freiburg is an excellent base for the evening: a beautiful old town, a good choice of hotels, and a convenient start for the mountain roads of the next day. Road nuances: most of the route follows comfortable federal roads, but parts of the B500 can be busy on weekends and near popular parking areas; in bad weather some viewpoints in the national park may be closed; on the approaches to Freiburg, the issue of the environmental zone already matters. The day is realistic because the distance is moderate, the route is linear, and all key stops naturally line up along one driving axis.

Day 3 — Freiburg → Schauinsland → Ravenna Gorge → Titisee

  • 🚗 One of the most beautiful driving days of the trip: from Freiburg we head to the mountain section toward Schauinsland, then drive through the Upper Black Forest to Titisee. Distance about 85 km, pure driving time ≈ 1 hr 25 min. Main stops: Schauinsland with its panorama over the Rhine plain, a short walk or cable car ride, then the Höllental area and Ravenna Gorge, and by evening the Titisee lakeside promenade. If you do not want to drive the steepest mountain section, you can leave the car at the lower station of the Schauinslandbahn and go up by cable car. It is convenient to stay overnight in Titisee or neighboring Hinterzarten, where there are both hotels and a real campground. Road nuances: the approach to Schauinsland is narrower and more winding in places than the B500; on weekends parking at popular spots may fill up early; around the lake it is calmer in the evening than during the day. The day is realistic for an average driver because the distance is short, and the serpentines are offset by frequent breaks and the absence of a long transit stretch.

Day 4 — Titisee → Feldberg → forest parking by the lakes → Titisee

  • 🚗 A circular day without changing base: about 75 km and ≈ 1 hr 15 min of pure driving time. In the morning, it is convenient to drive to Feldberg via the B317, go up to Seebuck and the main high-altitude viewpoints, then stop at official parking areas on the pass and descend to quieter forest sections and lake spots of the Upper Black Forest. The second half of the day is suitable for relaxing by Titisee or at nearby parking areas by forest trails. This is a day for those who want to “drive beautifully” rather than rush between towns. Road nuances: at Feldberg you may park only in designated areas; chaotic roadside parking along the B317 is prohibited, and cars blocking access may be towed away; in winter and the shoulder seasons, the high sections require extra attention. Staying overnight in Titisee again makes the day very comfortable and realistic: minimum logistics, maximum time for mountain views and lakeside stops.

Day 5 — Titisee → lake roads of the Upper Black Forest → Freiburg or return to the departure point

  • 🚗 The final day is best kept light and flexible: from Titisee through the forest roads and lakeside spots of the Upper Black Forest, finishing in Freiburg for car return or further departure. A realistic distance is about 95 km, pure driving time ≈ 1 hr 35 min. On the way, 1–3 stops make sense: shoreline points at Titisee, quiet parking areas by forest routes, and one long coffee break before descending to Freiburg. If you want more nature, you can stay longer around the lake area and only then return to the city. Road nuances: in the morning it is easier to find parking by the lakes than during the day; on the descent to Freiburg it is important not to overestimate your speed in the bends; when entering the city, check the Umweltzone requirements for the car. The day is realistic for an average driver because it is a short final transfer without rigid timing and with the possibility of calmly returning the car in the second half of the day.
